A 26-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded in a robbery incident outside his house in Migori Town.
The man was robbed of an unknown amount of money in the Thursday January 22 incident, police said.
He was shot in the left upper arm and the bullet was lodged in his lung. He fell unconscious outside his compound as the gang grabbed his mobile phones and cash he had.
Police said the victim operated an Mpesa shop in the town and had closed the business for the day, took a motorcycle home before he was confronted by the gunmen who had a pistol.
He was confronted by the two attackers after he alighted from his motorcycle and shot at close range in a confrontation.
The gang grabbed a bag that the man had and fled the scene, police said.
Police arrived at the scene minutes later and announced they were investigating the shooting. The area has been facing a rise in violent crime in the past months amid efforts to solve the trend.
A team of detectives was dispatched to the area to pursue the gang behind the attacks, police said on Friday amid calls from the locals to address the same.
Police say most of the gunmen behind the incidents strike and escape to either Tanzania or Nairobi to hide.
The police team has so far profiled some of the suspects behind the trend pending their arrest.
Investigations have shown the suspects are all from the area and usually monitor their targets before striking for money. Others target gold dealers in the area.
