The political landscape in Kenya continues to attract fresh faces, with more young people stepping forward to seek elective office ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The momentum has largely been attributed to the June 2025 Gen Z-led protests, which awakened political consciousness among many youths and inspired them to actively participate in leadership and governance.
Since then, an increasing number of young Kenyans have shown interest in vying for various political seats, signalling a generational shift in the country’s politics.
Among those now eyeing an entry into the political arena is popular entertainer Alphonce Kipkemboi Tengelei, widely known by his stage name DJ 2One2.

Nairobi News has learnt that DJ 2One2 is planning to vie for a parliamentary seat in Nandi County during the upcoming 2027 General Election.
Although the entertainer is yet to publicly announce the specific constituency he intends to contest, confirmed reports indicate that he will be seeking the seat under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.
News of his political ambitions was first made public by his former colleagues, Billy Miya and Mbaruk Mwalimu, during their Maskani 47 Show on Thursday, January 22.
The revelation came as a surprise to many listeners, given DJ 2One2’s long-standing career in the entertainment and media industry.
During the show, Billy Miya disclosed that the entertainer had already taken concrete steps to formalise his political journey.
According to Miya, DJ 2One2 has confirmed his candidature by registering with the UDA party as an aspirant for the forthcoming general election.
Before venturing into politics, DJ 2One2 built a strong reputation in the media industry.
He previously worked at Radio Maisha, where he served as the head deejay and became a familiar voice to many listeners across the country.
The entertainer left Radio Maisha in early 2025 and has since been running his own deejaying outfit, Beat Nation, which has remained active in events and entertainment circles.
His transition from the decks to the political stage now places him among a growing list of entertainers and young professionals seeking to translate popularity and influence into political leadership.
